Perfection

Perfection is a dangerous word! When you strive for perfection, you are setting yourself up for failure. If you have a goal of having a six-pack, running a marathon, bench-pressing 200 pounds, or doing 20 pull-ups, it’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication. It will not happen overnight. There are no quick fixes or magic pills. You have to eat healthy and get rid of processed food. I know it sounds like a lot of work and I’m here to tell you that it is! I’m not going to lie—it’s not easy! But it’s not about having the perfect body, it’s about feeling good. If perfection is your motivation, you will most definitely fail. I’m sorry to say that, but it’s true.

You can’t look at another person and say, “I want a body like that.” One, you are not that person; two, everyone’s idea of the “perfect body” is very different; three, there is no such thing as a “perfect body”; four, focusing on only your physical attributes will only take you so far. You have to do it because you want to be healthy, feel good, stay out of the doctor’s office, and live without pain. Your motivation has to be long term and something attainable. What works for you will be different from what works for another, so focus on goals that work for YOU.

If you begin and hit bumps along the way, just get up and start again. Don’t give up! We will never do anything “perfect.” In fact that word shouldn’t even be in our vocabulary because perfection is not attainable. We are all imperfect beings, so why do we think anything we do is going to be perfect!? All we can do is our best. So let go of the idea that if you are not perfect there’s no point in trying. Just start, and take it day by day. Set small daily goals in the beginning, then as you become comfortable with the small ones, makes bigger ones and let nature take its course. You will begin to feel stronger—and health will be a priority, not an afterthought. Yes, we are all going to die one day, but wouldn’t you rather die in peace and not in pain? I know I would!

When you focus on perfection, you begin to look at yourself like there is something wrong with the way you look. Bottom line, love who YOU are. There is not one person like you. Your uniqueness makes you special and only YOU can be you. Why do we try so hard to be like everyone else instead of cherishing our differences? If you can love yourself, no matter where you are in your fitness journey, you will be successful and reach your goals. Celebrate your differences, forget about perfection, and love who you are. You only have one life to live, so enjoy it and stop trying to be something you are not. You are amazing just the way you are!
