How Often Should I Exercise?

Home » Fit Blog » How Often Should I Exercise?

The question I get asked the most is “How often should I exercise?” The answer is different for each individual, since everyone has different goals and abilities; but on average, the minimum amount of exercise prescribed for an individual is 20 minutes a day, three times a week. In order to see increased results and benefit from the exercise you are doing, you need to increase your frequency, duration, and intensity.

If you don’t increase frequency, duration, and intensity and continue to do the same exercises you have been doing for years, your fitness level will not increase and you will hit a plateau. Your body is a well-oiled machine and its goal is to reach a balance. The body becomes accustomed to the exercises you are performing, so by cross-training and changing up your routine, it keeps your body guessing, forcing it to find that balance once again. Diet is also a huge factor. Sometimes we don’t realize how much we are eating or if we are making the best choices. Fueling your body with healthy food choices will support and improve all the work you are doing physically.
